Why RAM is usually the first upgrade
RAM determines how much active data Windows, Excel, Power BI and other applications can keep immediately available.
When physical memory becomes insufficient, Windows starts moving data between RAM and storage. Even with an NVMe SSD, this is much slower than keeping the data in memory.
Microsoft states that the number of open Excel workbooks, sheets, reports and many other workbook objects is limited by available memory and system resources. What an SSD improves—and what it does not
An NVMe SSD makes Windows, Excel and Power BI feel more responsive when:
